Using Online Forms and Surveys on Your Web Site

Do you want to know what your customers like, want, and need? Interested in collecting information about your customers? Or how about conducting a survey to get a pulse on a new product you’re selling? Thanks to the Internet, incorporating online forms and surveys into your web site is now much easier and more affordable than ever.

Online Forms

Using an online form as opposed to linking to an email or using a phone contact allows you to collect more information from the client, or prospective client, resulting in more efficient operations. It is also an easy way to add interaction to your site and engage your customer.

There are many different types of forms that may be useful to your business or organization.
Some of these include:

  • Newsletter Subscription
  • Event Registration
  • Contact
  • Feedback
  • Information or Service Request
  • Enter to Win
  • Place an Order
  • Make a Donation

Surveys
Here is a sampling of survey ideas that are among the endless ways to connect with your customer:

  • Customer Satisfaction
  • Product Improvement
  • Web Demographics
  • Customer Service
  • Follow-up/Experience

Most people will welcome the opportunity to voice their opinion but remember to keep your surveys quick and easy. Long surveys discourage people from completing them, and the results are more difficult to analyze. Also, consider making a few fields, like name and phone number, optional. This is especially effective for more sensitive questions that a customer may wish to remain anonymous.

Consider asking, "What can we do to improve or make our (product, service, delivery) better?" It tells your customer that you are serious about making your company better. By asking their opinion you are also strengthening the relationship between you and your customers.
