Spring Cleaning Ideas

Every year around this time we hear about Spring Cleaning. It applies to our homes, our closets, and our web sites. Even if you are conducting regular site maintenance, it’s good business practice to take a critical look at your site and assess what needs to be renewed and revised at least once a year. Your web site is an online representation of your company, so it’s vital that it is professional and current, to provide users a good impression.

Five Spring Cleaning Web Site Projects You Should Consider

Change your home page imagery. Just swapping out your current images with some new
ones can give your site a mini face-lift.

Update outdated copy. Customers aren’t the only ones who become discouraged seeing
old content; search engines will shuffle your site to the bottom of search result lists due to
site inactivity.

Incorporate Google Analytics. This great free tool lets you know what content pages are
most popular on your site, and what keywords users are searching on to find you.

Make your site mobile friendly. If your web site is a couple of years old, a mobile friendly
web site was probably not something you considered. Today, users will be visiting your web
site from their iPhones, BlackBerries, and other mobile devices. Having a mobile friendly site
is becoming more important for all businesses.

Check out the competition. Since you’re evaluating your own site, this might also be the perfect
time to check out the competition. What are they doing on their sites? What do you like? What
do you dislike? Also, investigate which web sites are linking to your competition. Can you obtain
a link on these sites as well?
